Once upon a naive pregnant chic ...

Pregnancy, I've found, has many blessings beyond the obvious gift of a child. For me, one of these extras was a new found inspiration to eat well. In my pre-pregnancy days, I was a junk food tragedy, often downing half a box of cookies or a bag of pretzels and calling it a meal. I'd consume mass quantities of diet soda to wash it all down. Although, I felt like crap much of the time, I consider myself very lucky to have not suffered any major health consequences as a result.

One day a couple months ago, I suddenly couldn't take a sip of my addiction inducing diet soda or a bite of the office's never ending stockpile of chocolate. Naturally, I brushed it off thinking I was coming down with something. As the days passed my food aversions continued with the added bonus of some pretty terrible exhaustion. My husband and I had been trying to conceive for several months with some false alarms and zero luck, so I didn't want to get my hopes up. Despite that, I decided to take a home pregnancy test ... make that three pregnancy tests and I discovered I was in fact pregnant! Turns out my body and the bambino-cito took charge to overturn my previously poor decisions. Go baby!

Now that I'm past the nausea drenched first trimester, my interest in food, cooking, and nutrition has bobbed to the surface. As a confessed junk food junkie with a bun in the oven, I have a lot of work ahead of me, but what better place than a blog to keep track of the journey?
